ChatCut has two upload paths with different limits: the media library (for footage you edit) is permissive, while AI generation references (media that guides a generation) are stricter. Check which path you’re using before comparing against the tables below.
What can I upload to the media library?
The media library accepts most common formats, up to 5,000 MB (5 GB) per file:
| Type | Accepted formats |
|---|---|
| Video | MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, TS |
| Image | JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG |
| Audio | MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG |
| Color | .cube LUT files |
What are the limits for AI generation references?
AI generation references must meet all of the following — files outside these bounds are rejected before generation starts (and nothing is charged):
| Limit | Images | Videos | Audio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formats | JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF, GIF | MP4, MOV | MP3, WAV |
| Max file size | 30 MB | 50 MB | 15 MB |
| Max files per run | 9 | 3 | 3 |
| Dimensions | 300–6,000 px per side | 300–6,000 px per side | — |
| Aspect ratio (w/h) | 0.4–2.5 | 0.4–2.5 | — |
| Duration | — | 2–15 s per file, 15 s total | 15 s total |
Why was my reference rejected?
The most common causes, in order: the file is over its size cap, the image is smaller than 300 px on one side, the aspect ratio is outside 0.4–2.5 (very tall or very wide images), or a video clip runs longer than 15 seconds. Resize or trim the file and upload again — rejected references never cost credits.
Why was my reference file rejected?
Reference uploads for AI generation get rejected over file size, dimensions, aspect ratio, duration, count, or an unsupported format (see ). Size caps are 30 MB for images, 50 MB for videos, and 15 MB for audio. Reference images must be larger than 300 px and smaller than 6000 px on both width and height; reference videos must be 300-6000 px on both sides, with a total pixel count (width times height) of 409,600-927,408. Aspect ratio (width divided by height) must sit strictly between 0.4 and 2.5 for images, and between 0.4 and 2.5 inclusive for videos. Reference videos and audio clips must each run 2-15 seconds long; the combined duration of all reference videos and the combined duration of all reference audio can each total at most 15 seconds. A single generation accepts at most 9 reference items overall, capped at 3 videos and 3 audio files.
How do I upload files from my phone?
Open the Upload menu in My Assets, choose “From phone…”, and scan the QR code with your phone’s camera — no app install and no login on the phone are required.
How do I upload files from my phone?
- In the editor, open My Assets and click the Upload dropdown, then select “From phone…”.
- A dialog titled “Scan the QR code” appears, with the subtitle “No app install required”. Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, or click “Get upload link” to copy the same link instead.
- On your phone, the link opens straight to “Send media to your desktop” — you don’t need to log in or install anything, because the phone-upload page works without an account.
- Tap “Choose files” and pick one or more files. The phone picker accepts video, audio, image, GIF, and SVG files, and lets you select multiple files at once.
- Wait for the upload(s) to finish. Each file is capped at 500 MB, which is 10x smaller than the 5000 MB desktop upload limit — split larger files or upload them from the desktop instead.
- Your files land in the media library of the same project the QR code was generated from — no need to pick a destination.
The QR code and link expire 5 minutes after you open the dialog. If you see “Link expired” on your phone, reopen the Upload dropdown on the desktop and select “From phone…” again to generate a fresh one.
